How to write an Interview Winning Cover Letter

Are you tired of sending out dozens of job applications only to receive no response? The reason could be your cover letter. A cover letter is your opportunity to make a great first impression on a hiring manager and showcase your skills and qualifications. In this blog post, I’ll share some tips on how to write an interview-winning cover letter.

1. The importance of a cover letter

A cover letter is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the employer and explain why you are the best candidate for the job. A well-written cover letter can be the deciding factor in whether or not you get an interview.

That is exactly why you should personalize it to the specific job you are applying for and highlight your relevant skills and experiences.

2. How to write an attention grabbing Subject line

First impressions matter, and your subject line is the first thing the recruiter will see when they receive your email. Make sure it’s attention-grabbing and relevant to the position you’re applying for.

a) Step into the recruiter’s shoes – Think about what the hiring manager is looking for and what they would be interested in. Use this information to create a subject line that’s relevant and interesting.

b) Don’t forget reference to the job posting – Include the job title and job ID number in the subject line. This will help the hiring manager quickly identify your application and make sure it gets to the right person.

Avoid generic subject lines like “Job Application” or “Resume and Cover Letter.” Instead, use something like “Sales Manager 5 years of sales turnaround experience at two fast growing startups – Ref : Sales Head Job Role ”

3. How to structure Your Cover Letter

Now that you’ve done your research and you know what the recruiter is looking for, it’s time to start writing your cover letter. Here’s a basic structure you can follow:

Paragraph 1: Create a Strong Hook

Start your cover letter with a strong opening that grabs the recruiter’s attention. This could be a personal anecdote, a relevant statistic, or a compelling statement about your skills or experience.

For example, you could start with something like:

“I was excited to see your job posting for a Sales Manager because I’ve always been passionate about helping companies grow their revenue. As an experienced sales professional with a proven track record of exceeding targets, I believe I have the skills and experience to make a significant impact at XYZ Company.”

Paragraph 2: Highlight Your Achievements

In the second paragraph, highlight your relevant achievements and experience. Use specific examples to demonstrate your skills and show how you’ve made an impact in your previous roles.

For example:

“In my previous role as a Sales Manager at ABC Company, I increased revenue by 25% in the first year by implementing a new sales strategy and coaching my team on effective selling techniques. I also developed strong relationships with key clients and won several major contracts, including a deal with a Fortune 500 company.”

Paragraph 3: What Next? Include a Call to Action

In the final paragraph, include a call to action. This could be a request for an interview, a statement of your availability, or a request to follow up with you.

For example:

“I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications further and learn more about the Sales Manager position at XYZ Company. Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide or if you would like to schedule an interview. Thank you for your consideration.”

4. A sample Cover letter for a Sales Manager Job
